Art Show

The Gathering of the Gargoyles is honored to showcase a number of talented artists each year. We would love to add your artwork to the show!
The main theme, as usual, is gargoyles, both canon and original. Non-gargoyle artwork is allowed as well, in it's own category. Please see the information on this page if you are interested in displaying or selling your artwork.
Art space for the Main Show, Othercon, and Chibicon can be purchased on the Registration Page for $10 per spot.

    • Presentation of Artwork
All artwork should be appropriately matted with a minimum one-inch border, and, if possible, framed to enhance its presentation. However, we understand that it is sometimes difficult to transport framed pieces.
    • Title Cards for Artwork
Title cards for artwork will be pre-printed by the Convention. Artists are required to submit a list to our Art Show Director (either by mail or e-mail) detailing the title, category and media (see above), as well as price (if being sold) of all pieces of artwork being displayed. This list is due no later than June 1, 2007. In early May, the Art Show Director will contact all artists who have registered for the Art Show and distribute a blank form for this purpose.
    • Entry Fee
There is a $10 charge per display board to help cover the cost of renting the boards. Each display board is approximately 4'x4'. Table space is also available for $10 for one 6'x2' table. Art registration fees may be paid through the Online Registration page or mailed (with completed mail-in registration form) to:
      The Gathering of the Gargoyles
      P.O. Box 584
      Chuckey, TN 37641
    • Awards
All entering artists will receive an award of participation. First, Second and Third prize awards will be given in each category. Best in Show will be awarded to the entry judged best overall regardless of media or subject.
    • Judging
Judging will be done by popular vote of convention attendees. Ballots will be available in the art room and counted prior to Closing Ceremonies.
    • Deadline for Registration
Art Show space is limited and will be assigned on a first come, first served basis. Art Show registrations will be accepted until all of the available display space has been reserved, or June 1, 2007, whichever comes first.
    • Artist Attendance at The Gathering of the Gargoyles
Artists are not required to attend The Gathering of the Gargoyles 2007 to participate in the competition or sale. However, prior arrangements must be made with Art Show Director at art-show@gatheringofthegargoyles.com for the reception and handling of all entered artwork.
If you need further assistance, or you have special requirements related to your artwork, please contact our staff or the Art Show Director.

    Art Show Setup Displays
Art Show setup takes place on the first day of the convention, Friday, June 22, 2007. The Gathering will provide boards approximately 4'x4' on which your art can be displayed. Please note the size of the boards when requesting space, to make sure you reserve enough space for all of the art you plan to bring.
The display panels are made of peg board and utilize a special hanging system that eliminates the use of thumbtacks or nails, thus securing the artwork without causing damage.
An area will also be provided in the Art Room for three-dimensional works. If you need another type of display device, please bring that to our attention when registering. Once setup is complete, the Art Room will be open for viewing by all convention members.

    Art Sales
The Gathering of the Gargoyles 2007 does not require artists to sell their work, but if an artist wishes to offer artwork for sale, we provide a means. There are two ways to sell your work at The Gathering 2007 Art Show.
The first option is the fixed price method. You can give the item a set sale price, for example, $20.00. In this case, the item would be sold to the first buyer willing to pay your price.
The second option is the silent auction. If you wish to participate in the silent auction, your art will be given bid sheet. Interested buyers will write their names and bids on your piece's assigned auction sheet. Once you have three bids on your sheet, your item will proceed to the live auction. There, it will be presented to the audience for bidding, starting at the price of the highest bid on the silent auction sheet. Once bought, all items will remain in the art room until paid for at the end of the convention.
    Art Show Security
We have taken measures to ensure the safety of your work. The art room will be equipped with a security table at the entrance to the room. At this table, all guests will be asked to check all bags. No cameras or visual recording devices will be allowed in the room without the express written permission of The Gathering of the Gargoyles 2007. Only convention attendees and special guests will be allowed in the room during display times. At all other times, the room will be locked and entrance restricted to convention staff.
Disclaimer: Although we will do our best to keep the Art Room secure, The Gathering of the Gargoyles and its staff will not be responsible for any items lost, broken, stolen, or damaged during the course of the Art Show.
    Commission on Artwork Sold
The Gathering of the Gargoyles 2007 will take a 10% commission fee on all artwork sold during the course of the show. The Gathering will keep track of all buyers, collect payment plus applicable sales tax, and give the artist their money, minus the 10% commission, within thirty (30) days after the convention closes.
    Othercon Art Contest
Othercon is a special division of the Art Contest, just for adult-themed artwork. It is open to participants age 18 and older ONLY. Awards will be presented in the categories under "Othercon Art" as stated above.
Please see the General Rules and Guidelines for additional rules.
    Chibicon Art Contest
The Chibicon Art Contest is open to participants age 13 and younger. Special awards will be presented in the categories under "Chibicon" as stated above.
Please see the General Rules and Guidelines for additional rules.
