Rules and Awards
Continuing
with an established tradition, The Twelfth Annual Gathering of the
Gargoyles will host an art show devoted primarily to artistic
renderings of gargoyles, both canon and original. Please review the
information on this page if you are interested in displaying or selling
your artwork.
If you need further assistance, or you have special requirements related to your artwork, please contact our staff or the Art Show Director. Art Show set-up takes place on the first day of the convention, Friday, June 27, 2008. A room has been set aside for that purpose. The Gathering will provide boards approximately 4'x4' on which your art can be displayed. Please note the size of the boards when requesting space, to make sure you reserve enough space for all of the art you plan to bring. The display panels are
made of peg board and utilize a special hanging system that eliminates
the use of thumbtacks or nails, thus securing the artwork without
causing damage. An area will also be
provided in the Art Room for three-dimensional works. If you need
another type of display device, please bring that to our attention when
registering. Once set-up is complete, the Art Room will be open for
visitation by all convention members. The Gathering of the Gargoyles does not require artists to sell their work, but if an artist wishes to offer artwork for sale, we do provide a means. There are two ways you can sell your work at The Gathering 2008 Art Show. The first option is the fixed price method. You can give the item a set sale price, for example, $20.00. In this case, the item would be sold to the first buyer willing to pay your price. The second option is the silent auction. If you wish to participate in the silent auction, your art will be given bid sheet. Interested buyers will write their names and bids on your piece's assigned auction sheet. Once you have three bids on your sheet, your item will proceed to the live auction. There, it will be presented to the audience for bidding, with bidding starting at the price of the highest bid on the silent auction sheet. Once bought, all items will remain in the art room until paid for at the end of the convention. We have taken security measures to ensure the safety of your work. The art room will be equipped with a security table at the entrance to the room. At this table, all guests will be asked to check all bags. No cameras or visual recording devices will be allowed in the room without the express written permission of The Gathering of the Gargoyles. Only convention attendees and special guests will be allowed in the room during display times. At all other times, the room will be locked and entrance restricted to convention staff. Disclaimer: Although we will do our best to keep the Art Room secure, The Gathering of the Gargoyles and its staff will not be responsible for any items lost, broken, stolen, or damaged during the course of the Art Show. The Gathering of the
Gargoyles will take a 10% commission fee on all artwork sold
during the course of the show. The Gathering will keep track of all
buyers, collect payment plus applicable sales tax, and give the artist
their money, minus the 10% commission, within thirty (30) days after
the convention closes. The Junior
Art Contest is open to participants 14 and younger. Special awards will
be presented in the categories of Gargoyles Artwork (Canon Characters),
Gargoyles Artwork (Original Characters) and Other Fantasy Artwork.
Please see the General
Rules and Guidelines for additional rules. Entrants in the Junior
Division must still pay $10 per display board they wish to rent.
